Artificial Grass

Realistic, low-maintenance artificial turf that stays green every day of the year.

About this service

Modern artificial grass bears little resemblance to the thin, plasticky surfaces of twenty years ago. Today's products use multi-tonal, textured fibres in 30–40 mm pile heights that look convincingly natural year-round. We install on a compacted sub-base with a shock-absorbing crumb rubber or sand infill, ensuring the surface drains, stays stable and is comfortable underfoot.

Premium Turf Selection

We supply 30–40 mm pile height artificial grass with multi-tone fibres (typically three to four shades of green) that mimic a well-maintained natural lawn.

Proper Sub-base

We excavate 70–100 mm and compact a Type 1 sub-base before laying a geotextile membrane — no artificial grass laid straight on soil or existing lawn.

Perforated Drainage System

The sub-base design allows water to drain at a rate of 30+ litres per hour per square metre — preventing puddling even in Hampshire's wettest winters.

Shock Pad Underlay

A 10–15 mm foam or crumb rubber underlay provides a softer feel underfoot and additional cushioning — recommended for areas used by children.

Invisible Joins

Joins are made using specialist adhesive tape and positioned with the grain direction consistent so seams are invisible in normal use.

Neat Edging & Borders

Timber, concrete or aluminium bender board fixes the perimeter securely and provides a clean edge against planting beds, paving or fencing.

Our process

A clear, professional approach on every project — so you know what to expect at every stage.

1

Survey & Template

We measure the area, plan the turf direction (run of the pile should face the main viewpoint) and identify any drainage challenges.

2

Excavation & Sub-base

Existing lawn and topsoil are removed, the ground excavated to 70–100 mm depth, and compacted Type 1 sub-base installed.

3

Membrane & Underlay

A weed-suppressing membrane is laid over the sub-base, followed by the shock pad underlay if specified.

4

Turf Cutting & Laying

Turf is cut on site with a sharp knife to fit the shape precisely. Joins are seamed with adhesive tape, the turf nailed or stapled at edges.

5

Infill & Brushing

Sand or crumb rubber infill is spread and brushed in against the pile grain to support the fibres and give a natural, upright appearance.

Common questions

Practical answers to the questions we hear most often about artificial grass.

How long does artificial grass last?

Quality artificial grass with a good sub-base installation should last 15–20 years before fibres show significant wear. We offer a 5-year installation guarantee on all our artificial turf work.

Is artificial grass safe for children and pets?

Yes — modern artificial grass is lead-free and manufactured to EN 71 toy safety standards. It is easy to clean: solid waste is removed and the area hosed down. Urine drains through rapidly.

Does artificial grass get hot in summer?

It can reach higher surface temperatures than natural grass in direct sunlight, though modern products are significantly cooler than early versions. Light watering brings the temperature down quickly.

Can artificial grass be laid on a slope?

Yes — up to around 30 degrees. Steeper slopes require additional fixing methods and a review of the drainage plan. We assess each site individually.
