The most beautiful gardens are never the result of occasional bursts of effort — they are maintained consistently through small, regular interventions timed to the seasons. Here is the year-round routine we recommend to clients across Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire.
Winter (November–February)
Winter maintenance focuses on protection, planning and preparing for spring. Heavy work like clearing, structural pruning and any hard landscaping projects is best scheduled now when the garden is dormant.
- Clear fallen leaves regularly from lawn and paving
- Check fencing and structures for storm damage
- Plant bare-root trees, shrubs and hedging
- Plan and order seed, plants and materials for spring
- Apply winter wash to fruit trees
Spring (March–May)
Spring is the busiest season. Lawn renovation, first cuts, border preparation, mulching and planting all happen now. Prioritise the lawn first — it sets the tone for the whole garden season.
Summer (June–August)
Summer maintenance is about keeping on top of growth and watering. Mow regularly, deadhead borders, water containers daily in hot weather and keep paving weed-free.
Autumn (September–October)
Autumn is the second most productive planting season. Lawn renovation, bulb planting, dividing perennials and planting trees, shrubs and hedging should all happen in September and October.
